Bahamas Christmas 2022 - Day 1: Arrival

This year's Escape From The Cold trip for Christmas takes us to Nassau, Bahamas (which is sort of synonymous with New Providence, Bahamas, because the city is apparently the entire island?)

We hit the road early, carpooling from two different origins, to beat the traffic and get to the Philadelphia airport early enough to grab breakfast before our ~10:30AM flight.

"We" includes Steve this year, as he's always up for an adventure and often says "yes" without thinking too much about the question.

Our flight was rather uneventful, only taking about 2.5 hours once we got in the air, but ended with the usual (lengthy) wait at immigration in the Caribbean. It took long enough that the driver sent by the hotel had given up waiting, and we had to call them to send another car.

It took over two hours from the time we deplaned until we got the keycards for our suite at the Sandyport Beach Resort. It was a great reminder of what it means to be on Island Time.

The balcony of our suite/condo/whatever overlooks the canal that connects the Sandyport marina to the ocean. It wasn't yet raining, but the clouds to the west were ominous, so we unloaded our luggage and ventured forth in search of victuals.

Just a few hundred yards along the walkway to the beach, we found the Blue Sail Bar & Grill on the beach. The water was a bit rough due to the impending weather, but the view was still quite lovely.

As the rain rolled in, the staff lowered some retractable plastic windows in an attempt to keep people dry. The wind was strong enough to blow over my (mostly empty) highball glass, at one point.

We spent a few hours attempting to wait out the rain, then eventually gave up and enjoyed a moist march back to the suite.

After dinner, Steve, Rudy, and I donned our rain gear and meandered to the edge of the resort, in search of some portable, liquid refreshments. Having succeeded at our quest, we retreated to the dryness of the resort for the evening, to peruse some plans for tomorrow, wash off the day's travel grime, and head to bed early.

There are some more photos that I should probably add, from other people, but Blogger/Google_Photos is being a pain and I'm giving up for tonight.
