Alaska 2018 - Day 4: Rough Seas, Hubbard Glacier

Last night, we went to bed during calm seas. Some time during the night, that changed. Our rooms are high up in the bow area, which seems to amplify the pitching and rolling of the ship.

We had ordered a very light breakfast via room service, but Sabrina wasn't enthused about eating in the room while the floor was moving, so we headed to the stern area for some breakfast buffet and fresh air.

Sabrina and Shannon went to a wine tasting at 11 AM, while Jason and I explored the upper decks of the ship.

We regrouped for lunch, at which time the captain made some announcements. Our progress was being slowed by the weather, which included 60 to 70 mph winds.

Drawers were opening as the ship rocked. The pools were all violently trying to empty themselves. Senior citizens were crashing into walls. There was chatter about people getting sick, although we didn't witness any of it. They closed all of the pools and all outside decks.

The weather remained violent until we reached Yakutat bay, around 3:30 PM, at which point we were somewhat sheltered from the wind, and the weather suddenly improved.

The timing was perfect, because we were in Yakutat Bay to see the Hubbard Glacier.

The ship cruised slowly up to the glacier, and did a few donuts in front of it as we ate an early dinner.

We turned back towards the open ocean around 6 or 6:30 PM, and continued along the coast.

We hit the hot tub after dinner.

The weather had improved dramatically, and we had smooth sailing for the rest of the night.
